Brandon Williams has signed a three-month contract with Rotherham United. The 26-year-old former Manchester United full-back joined the Millers after spending an extended trial period with the club.

Williams left Hull City by mutual consent in February after making one appearance for the Championship club last season. He had joined Hull three months earlier, following a 20-month absence from football after receiving a suspended prison sentence for dangerous driving in May 2025.

Williams' Football Career

The England Under-21 international made more than 50 appearances for Manchester United before loan spells at Norwich and Ipswich. Hull offered him a one-year deal to return to competitive football last season.

Manager's Backing

Rotherham manager Alex Bruce said Williams deserved the contract after impressing during pre-season. "He's worked really hard with us since pre-season, has shown a great attitude every day and an appetite and hunger just to play," Bruce told BBC Radio Sheffield.

Bruce highlighted Williams' difficult recent years and praised his determination. "Not that you want to give contracts out willy-nilly, but when someone has showed the appetite, desire and hunger to come in every day and not get paid, like he has done — and let's not lose sight of where he's been and what kind of career he has had — I'm really pleased to give him the opportunity to give his career a kick-start."

The manager added that Williams has improved noticeably since arriving for pre-season training.

Club Context

The signing comes after left-sided defender Ewan Otoo sustained a thigh injury last month. Rotherham currently sits one point above the League Two relegation zone, with two wins from 12 matches this season.
