Thousands of students across Rotherham received their GCSE results on Thursday 20 August, with the borough recording improved outcomes in English and Maths.
A total of 3,369 students received results, with overall performance in English and Maths combined reaching 63.2% at grade 4 or above — an increase of 3.2% compared to 2025.
English Results
English results improved in Rotherham, with 73.1% of students achieving a grade 4 (pass) or higher, up 2.8% on 2025. At grade 5 and above, 58.5% achieved the higher pass, an increase of 3.2% from the previous year.
Rotherham outperformed the national average, where 71.4% achieved grade 4 or higher and 55% achieved grade 5 and above.
Maths Results
Maths results also improved in Rotherham, with 68.7% of students achieving a grade 4 (pass) or higher, up 2.4% on 2025. At grade 5 and above, 48.7% achieved the higher pass, an increase of 2.9% from last year.
Rotherham remains below the national average of 71.8% at grade 4 or above, but the gap has narrowed.
Council Response
Councillor Victoria Cusworth, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Rotherham Council, congratulated all students receiving results.
"Whether students are progressing to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, training or employment, they have a strong foundation to build upon," Councillor Cusworth said.
"For those who may not have achieved exactly what they hoped for, there are still many opportunities available, and support is on hand to help them find the right pathway for their future."
