Rotherham Council is taking direct management of its four Household Waste Recycling Centres from 28 October, bringing extended opening hours and plans for further improvements.
All four sites — Car Hill (Greasbrough), Lidget Lane (Bramley), Warren Vale (Rawmarsh) and Magilla (North Anston) — will operate from 9:30am to 5pm, seven days a week, throughout the year. This represents an extra hour and a half of winter access compared to previous arrangements. The centres will remain open on Bank Holidays, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
Why the change?
The contract previously held by an external operator is ending. By bringing management in-house, the council says it will have greater direct control and flexibility over operations, with a focus on improving reuse and recycling while delivering value for money.
What's planned next
Cllr Lynda Marshall, Cabinet Member for Waste Services, Leisure and Green Spaces, said the council has committed to further improvements over the coming months, including enhanced staffing and an on-site reuse facility to prevent good products from being discarded.
Residents can use the centres to recycle and dispose of a range of household waste items. For details of what can be taken to each centre, visit the council's Household Waste Recycling Centres page.
